SANDHURST WESLEYAN CHAPEL: LINKS
Chapel founded 1805.
Baptisms 1815 - 1837
Staplecross Circuit from Aug 1815 - . Afterwards called the Sandhurst Circuit Aug 1816 onwards. These were circuits taking in a large number of villages. I have listed the Sandhurst, Bodiam & Benenden entries and also some familiar names or interesting professions from nearby (note the weaver in Sandhurst in 1834). Jenny Joyce has fully transcribed all entries from Book 2 from number 112 to the end at 333 and a full transcription of all entries is intended. The Sandhurst Circuit was huge: the books include entries for persons resident in Battle, Beckley, Benenden, Bilsington, Bodiam, Brede, Brenchley, Brightling, Burwash, Cranbrook, Crowhurst, Dallington, East Hoathly, Etchingham, Ewhurst, Goudhurst, Hawkhurst, Hooe, Horsmonden, Hurst Green, Lamberhurst, Mayfield, Mountfield, Newenden, Northiam, Pembury, Penhurst, Robertsbridge, Salehurst, Sandhurst, Sedlescombe, Staplecross, Ticehurst, Tonbridge Wells, Wadhurst, Westerham and Westfield. A full transcription may not seem relevant to a site which tries to concentrate on Sandhurst and its immediate neighbourhood, but the Sandhurst Circuit constitutes a community and its registers should reveal links and associations across it which might not otherwise have been obvious.
For Wesleyan Baptisms before August 1815 see the Rye Chapel Book of Registers.
